25 Years Later! - The Great Scottish Run

Well it has been 25 years since my last half marathon and I have finally decided to get my running shoes back on. I will be running the BOS Great Scottiish Run on Sunday 2nd September in Glasgow and I hope that you will support me in doing so.

I will be running the half marathon in memory of my father "John Ward" who died of cancer 14 years ago, and I will be raising money for the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity as this is where he had his treatment and also where he spent his last days.

I appreciate that there are many demands on you to support various worthy causes, but those of you that know me well will know that I don't often get involved in fundraising events. So I ask you to dig deep on this ocassion. Every penny will be greatly appreciated by both myself and the Royal Marsden Charity.

So thanks for visiting my page. Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to the charity. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. I really appreciate all your support and thank you once again for any donations.

Many Thanks
Mick

                                       THE TRAINING SO FAR

The training schedule is 3 months in and in full swing, and apart from a calf muscle problem which put me back a few weeks all is going well. I have had some useful advice from fellow runners and am gradually building up my stamina.

I have been running the Jackton loop which is a 3.6 mile rectangualr circuit from home and most of it is on minor B roads so traffic is quiet and not too undulating. It goes through local farm land and always plenty of livestock to keep you company along the way.

Building up from that I am also running Calderglen Country Park route of 4.6 miles, which can be a little difficult at times and particularly after heavy rainfall as the path gets waterlogged and too muddy (not that it is really a problem being muddy). The route is much more undulating and takes a lot more effort to run certain sections. Hopefully within next few weeks will then be up to 6m extended Jackton Loop run. Below are  a couple of shots of Calderglen, a beautiful place to walk or run whatever the weather.

More on my progress in a few weeks!
